Cancelling should only be used when we want to cut out a truly terrible person from a market to prevent them to continue profiting when they're objectively someone we shouldn't be financially supporting. The only line we shouldn't cross is the one where people start sending death threats and go out of their way to harass authors. I was actually just replying to a comment on your last post lol, but yeah, content of any form that's created for entertainment is going to be subject to critical analysis. It’s not the end of the world if someone points out a flaw with kotlc, I promise.īut what do you guys think? Is there a line we shouldn’t cross when critiquing the series? I’ll definitely make more posts about this later, but I hope people won’t be immediately offended. And matters of race in kotlc are very weird and could have been improved. One of my points was basically the messy attempt at representation. If I or anyone suggests a specific reason is to blame, they are not immediately canceling Shannon Messenger. I really do like reading it □ but it’s never going to be perfect and a lot of fans have pointed this out. Pointing them out doesn’t mean I hate kotlc. And I think it’s fun to talk about its flaws with other fans. But here’s the thing that I think most of us can agree on: kotlc isn’t perfect. My recent post received a bit of controversy implying that I was “canceling” Shannon over stuff I critiqued about the series, and it’s such a strange mindset a lot of fans have in fandoms in general.
